Title : Preventing psychological obstacles to growth

In my talk I shall describe  the fragile beginnings of life, when some babies must remain in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or in the paediatric ward. Such stays, though life-preserving, carry hidden risks for the infant’s emotional, cognitive, and psychological development. It is our shared responsibility to imagine the most compassionate ways of caring for these little ones —  So that survival is not only physical, but becomes the seedbed of future growth and well-being throughout life. I hope this will promote an intense, profoundly significant interest in preventing obstacles to physical, cognitive and psychological development for life.

Dr. Jeanne Magagna trained at the Tavistock Clinic in London where she received a Phd. As an international author and teacher she has published The Silent Child, Being Present for your Nursery Age Child, Contemporary Child Psychotherapy, Eating Disorders in Children and Adolescents, Creativity and Psychotic States, Baby Observation and other books in various countries.
